Story Summary:
Charles Ruben Ritchie Bridge was born in Old Leigh in 1894 and the family lived at 60 High Street, Leigh-on-Sea over the course of several decades.
Most of the Bridge family were Fishermen but Charles was a Butcher's Boy for the local butcher, who would have delivered orders around the town.
Charles joined the 9th Battalion of the Essex Regiment - better known at 'The Hungry Ninth' and was Service Number 13046.
The 9th Battalion landed in France in May 1915 and went on to fight on the Western Front through many of the best known battles of the Great War.
Charles Bridge was injured and shipped back to Britain, but sadly died of his wounds on the 29th January 1916.
