Story Summary:

Ernest Haig was born in London in 1867. His father Axel Haig was an Artist and he had a brother Harold.

Ernest Haig was a career officer in the Royal Engineers. In 1891 he is listed as a Lieutenant, in 1901 he is a Captain, in 1911 a Major and in 1914 a Lieutenant Colonel. 

Ernest married Mabel Blake in Hampshire in 1891 and together they had 2 daughters, Marguerite and Christine.

In the 1911 census Ernest Haig is listed as a Major and the Haig family lived in the Manor House, Shoeburyness - they had 3 servants living with them. 

Lt Col Haig died quite early in the war - 28th December 1914.
