SSFR The Story So Far....

Taking care...West Leigh Junior School

20+ schools, cubs, beavers and scouts, members of the Royal British Legion, and the Essex Society of Family History and veterans from SSAFA, we salute you! Also anyone who plays the National Lottery, we thank you for giving us the opportunity to be able to meet over 3,000 children and learn how generous, kind and creative our community can be.

This project wouldn't have made it so far without our volunteers, from our marvellous members of the SSFR Steering Group, to those who have picked up a rolling pin, cutter or paintbrush or made the tea or picked up boxes we are so grateful to all of you...please keep up the good work - there is still a great deal to do!

We have also received some truly inspirational stories from Southend and around the world about family members who died in the Great War. The children have been so respectful of the veterans who have been willing to share their experiences it has been lovely to observe that the younger generation are interested in more than their screens.

From our warm welcome at St Christopher's to the scientists in Edwards Hall to every pair of hands that has joined in this special project we all want to thank you for taking part...also anyone who wants to find out more please do get in touch ssfr@blade-education.org.uk or call us on 0207 0973935 or come along Wednesday 25th Leigh Community Centre, Thursday 26th and Friday 27th October at Belfairs Academy.

Happy half term!

Beth
